  • Paint Like...Haring

    American artist Keith Haring was best known for his graffiti-inspired drawings, which he first made in subway stations and later exhibited in museums. As a child, Haring was fascinated by the cartoon art of Walt Disney and Charles Schultz and the illustrations of Dr. Seuss. He spent many hours drawing with his father, an engineer whose hobby was cartooning. Sun 9th Nov 7pm - Barking Dogs (Pop Shop IV Plate IV). In this gently guided session we'll try out some of the techniques that the great artists used to define their unique styles. We'll aim to replicate one of their classic works. We may choose a whole painting or a section to complete and you will enjoy an evening creating something similar to a great master! What do I need?     Join Liddy to paint her acrylic piece The Blue Door the comfort of your own home, Gently guided by Liddy, a canvas or primed cardboard (white acrylic) A4 approx or above, acrylic paints in primary colours plus black and white and a selection of brushes including a detail brush. Liddy is the creative force and main tutor with Something Less Boring. She is a qualified Illustrator and also a qualified teacher. Liddy taught art for over 10 years at secondary school level before leaving to found Something Less Boring in 2017 with the aim of bringing art and sport to all ages regardless of ability in a fun, creative and inclusive way. Since April 2020 we estimate that Liddy has taught close to 500 online art sessions In her own words: "From as long as I can remember I have always dreamt about being an artist and illustrator. My passion has always been for art and I have always enjoyed being creative. Some of my fondest childhood memories are those spent with my siblings creating stories, drawing illustrations and making books. I guess it was from here that a profound love for all things creative was born and nurtured."

    Drawing on his style and technique you will be guided through this session to create an original version of your own based on one of Charles M Schultz's classic Peanuts panels Sun 21st Dec 7pm - Snoopy's Gift We will look at examples of the artist's work to gain an understanding of the characteristics and traits of their work and how we might carry that forward and use similar methods in our own work What do I need? We try to keep the equipment requirements very simple to ensure the sessions are as accessible as possible A selection of coloured Pencil Crayons Or Watercolour paints to include the primary colours, plus black and white A pencil and eraser A small selection of brushes - two round brushes medium and large and one detail brush Watercolour paper You'll also need a pot of water, a cloth and a smile! ​

She is best known for her children's books featuring animals, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which was her first commercially published work in 1902.     Van Gogh is today one of the most popular of the Post-Impressionist painters, although he was not widely appreciated during his lifetime. He is now famed for the great vitality of his works which are characterised by expressive and emotive use of brilliant colour and energetic application of paint. The traumas of his life, documented in his letters, have tended to dominate and distort modern perceptions of his art. You are free to take as much guidance as you like, but we certainly won't restrict your creative flair By the end of the evening, you will have some new skills and your own piece of wall worthy art. Our events are recommended for anyone over the age of 14 .     Join us in Ikea's spacious restaurant on a Monday morning for a gently guided art session Running from 10am to 12noon we'll provide all the materials for you to paint the week's theme, expertly guided by Nicole. Grab yourself a coffee, have a natter and get creative...maybe stay for a spot of lunch! Coffee and cake is not included in the price, just a suggestion!
